The school wanted to modernise drinking-water access for students and staff, with hygiene, appearance and sustainability central to the brief. Its existing bubbler fountain barely produced water and no longer offered a satisfactory user experience.
The proposed location was a busy basement corridor outside the student toilets, with convenient access to water and waste services. However, the school’s building is more than 130 years old and retains many original structural features. The mounting surface was uneven and made up of three different materials.
Power was also difficult to access in this area, so the solution needed to suit the services available as well as the physical space.
After consultation and a site survey, we specified one wall-mounted Elkay EMASMB station providing ambient drinking water. The unit suited the location’s practical requirements and included a bottle counter to help the school monitor use.
We designed and built a bespoke frame around the wall’s changing contours and materials. Alongside supporting the station, the frame covered the water and waste pipework, keeping it out of students’ reach and creating a tidier installation.
Water Refill Group managed product specification, supply, the bespoke frame design and installation, with service and maintenance support. The station serves students, staff and visiting sports teams in a high-footfall area of the school.
The new station provides more convenient drinking-water access and an improved refill experience. Its counter showed a reading of 650 when photographed on 29 September 2026, less than a month after installation.
The bespoke frame made it possible to upgrade the facility while working around the existing wall structure and concealing the service pipework.
Following the installation, the school placed an order for another unit outside its sports hall, extending its investment in drinking-water access to a further area of the site.
